Down Week but Lessons Learned

Last week was a down week and I took some beatings at the cash table. I started to read Gus Hanson's book "Every Hand Revealed" and I became too aggressive. The book is geared toward tournament play and I tried to take advantage of some small edges in a cash game and was significantly burned. There was one person who sucked out on me for one buy in but I have no one else to blame for the other significant losses. Many times I was pot committed with outs and never hit. I need to slow down a little bit and make sure the pots don't get too big. I need to slow down on my continuation bets and pick and choose where they make the most sense.

My tournament play seems to be hot and cold. I seemed to play in several tournies but did not place in many of them. With that being said, the ones I did place in were usually wins or 2nd place. The biggest bonus was cashing in the $200K Double Deuce on Sunday afternoon. I finished in about 1,300th place of about 16,000 runners. It was only $45 on a $20 buy in but I played well even though I was card dead for the majority of my time. There were a couple of times when I was shortstacked that I doubled up and we all know that those types of situation are typically coin flips at best. On the last hand I had a guy with a stack just a little smaller than mine go all in. I had AJo and pushed. I felt pretty good about my hand but I became instantly depressed when the guy next to me went all in. He had KK and another King on the turn sealed my fate. BTW - the guy I raised had KQ so I was ahead of him ... good call, bad result.
